The Annoying Power Outages

Has the annoying power outages in the CNMI bothered you? Well you're not alone. Almost everyone has been annoyed and bothered by the continuing power outages. These ongoing power outages is showing that Saipan as an island does not have a very bright future. These power outages affect everyone and everything. The worst thing is that sometimes the power outages are unanounced. The island is going in a downward spiral and it will continue if no one is going to stop it.

I have no idea what is going on the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation. It is safe to say that right now they are in a big dilema and might even be corrupted. No one nows where it all went wrong.Actually it is not only CUC, but it is the whole goverment. The reason for the power outages is beacause of the old engines that they have here. The goverment is to much in debt to buy new engines.

If there was a power outage in the United States for about 2 hrs. it would be a big issue. Here in Saipan people are getting quite used to it and sometimes it is rare if there is no power outage. Power outages affect daily activities. No one likes them, but I think people here have actually become accustomed to it.

To me there are two main reasons why power outages are bad. The first is power outages greatly affect the economy. Lots of buisnesses are suffering beacuase of the power outages. Saipan is in a Capital Flght. Lets say for example a Ice Cream Shop opens. How will they continue to run there buisness if the power outages cause there ice cream to melt. The only one solution is a generator and that will cause a lot of money. The second reason is for the tourist. Do you think that tourist like it if they are walking and the power suddenly goes out? They wouldn't like walking in the dark streets and plus it would be setting a bad impression. They might just go back to Japan and telling all there close friends who would then not want to come here anymore.

So in conclusion Power Outages are now expected from the people living here, but it greatly affects the islands well being. So until Commonwealth Utilities Corporation can consistently provide good service they will still be called corrupted and inept in controlling the only source of energy on the island.
