The Annoying Power Outages

Has the annoying power outages in the CNMI bothered you? Well you're not alone. Almost everyone has been annoyed and bothered by the continuing power outages. These ongoing power outages is showing that Saipan as an island does not have a very bright future. These power outages affect everyone and everything. The worst thing is that sometimes the power outages are unanounced. The island is going in a downward spiral and it will continue if no one is going to stop it.

I have no idea what is going on the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation. It is safe to say that right now they are in a big dilema and might even be corrupted. No one nows where it all went wrong.Actually it is not only CUC, but it is the whole goverment. The reason for the power outages is beacause of the old engines that they have here. The goverment is to much in debt to buy new engines.

If there was a power outage in the United States for about 2 hrs. it would be a big issue. Here in Saipan people are getting quite used to it and sometimes it is rare if there is no power outage. Power outages affect daily activities. No one likes them, but I think people here have actually become accustomed to it.

To me there are two main reasons why power outages are bad. The first is power outages greatly affect the economy. Lots of buisnesses are suffering beacuase of the power outages. Saipan is in a Capital Flght. Lets say for example a Ice Cream Shop opens. How will they continue to run there buisness if the power outages cause there ice cream to melt. The only one solution is a generator and that will cause a lot of money. The second reason is for the tourist. Do you think that tourist like it if they are walking and the power suddenly goes out? They wouldn't like walking in the dark streets and plus it would be setting a bad impression. They might just go back to Japan and telling all there close friends who would then not want to come here anymore.

So in conclusion Power Outages are now expected from the people living here, but it greatly affects the islands well being. So until Commonwealth Utilities Corporation can consistently provide good service they will still be called corrupted and inept in controlling the only source of energy on the island.

America's Favorite Pastime

What is America's Favorite Pastime? Well there is only one answer to that question. And the answer is Baseball. Baseball has been around since the 1860's. And since then it has become beloved by fans all around the world. This sport has been through alot. There were the high points and the low points. Becoming a Major League Baseeball player is what every little kid dreams of becoming when they grow up. The main reason for that is, what is better than playing something that you love with all the extra benefits. Everybody that plays in the MLB(Major League Baseball) has passion for the game.

Every Baseball season starts in April and goes all the way to October. This keeps the excitement going for most of the year. And every person that likes watching baseball has a particular team that they root for. The team with the most history is probaly the New York Yankees. This team is one of the oldest teams. And the next best team is the Boston Red Sox. And coincidentally these two teams hate each other the most. They have what you call the biggest rivalry in sports.

As I said arlier baseball has also had its downs. The main downside to the MLB is this era right now, whch is called the Stroid ERA. People are questioning everyting about baseball now a days. The most controversial player in this steroid ERA is probaly Barry Bonds. He is controversial because Barry Bonds recently took the lead for most Home Runs in a career and now people are wondering if he cheated to get up there. Honestly I don't think he cheated intentionally. Just because you took steroids doesn't mean you're going to hit 762 homeruns. So I don't think he cheated.

So in conclusion Baseball is one hell of a sport, But it has its downsides. I think once this steroid era is gone, Baseball will no longer be controversial and it will go back to be America's Favorite Pastime.

Entering a New World

Once you are done with junior high school you move into a whole new world. High School is a whole new level of education. This new world has brand new adventures that can be good or bad. The good stuff include fun times and meeting new people. The bad side includes Peer Pressure,Bad grades, and other troubles.

I will first talk about the bad side. The first thing is Peer Presure. Peer Pressure is everywhere. Peer pressure involves a lot of things. And in high school it is really hard to avoid it. It ranges from drugs to alcohol. But if you are coming to school for all the right reasons, then there is nothing to worry about.

Another thing that is hard in high school is passing any class. All classes are challenging, and they all will make you work hard just too even pass. High School is not like junior high school, in which you get away with alot of things that you would normally never get away with in high school. Here teachers find your potential and they try to make you what you can be.

Now we will talk about all the good things. These good things take away all the bad things. In your four years of high school you will pretty much get to know everybody on campus. Everyday you meet someone new or you learn something new about someone. But the best thing is that everyday and I mean every single day you learn something new about the world.

So overall High School is like a game. There are diffrent levels and each level gets harder and harder. You started in elementary, which was the easy level, and it was easy. Then it was junior high school, which was the medium level, in which you got yourself in a little trouble but managed to pass. Then comes the hard level, which is high school, where to pass you need to try your best. And when you finally graduate you get the feeling of accomplishment which means you have won the game.

Research topics

As you all know by now, we had to do a research paper on various topics. I did all my questions with ease, except for maybe one or two. The question that really made me think was the one about the dinosaurs. It really made me think about how everything started. It also made think about how these creatures, that we have come to know as dinosaurs, evolved and lived.

From doing this question I learned that dinosaurs had lived here for over a 160 milion years, while modern humans have only lived on earth for about 200,000 years. These two things that I learned go hand in hand. On the first hand, humans have lived here for only 200,000 years and look how much we have evolved. On the other hand, dinosaurs and earlier forms of hum
ans have lived here for over 160 million and they haven't done nothing. I wonder, were our brains just that much bigger. Or maybe they had some disadvantages. But whatever it was, it must have been big.

Another thing about this question that really made me think was how these dinosaurs became extinct. There are many theories revolving around dinosaurs. All of them are believable. The one that really stood out to me was the one abut the asteroid. That is the one I am going to believe for now, until I can find out more.
